Patients are seen by appointment Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Friday 9:00 AM to 12:00PM.  The office is closed Saturday and Sunday.   Appointments can be made by calling 985-221-4400 during office hours. Our offices are adjacent to Teche Regional Medical Center.

We try our best to stay on schedule, but OB/GYN is very unpredictable. If we are seriously delayed we will attempt to call you ahead of your appointment.

Please assist us by checking in 15 minutes early if you are a new patient to our practice, or 5 minutes early if you are established with us.

If you are unable to keep your appointment or need to reschedule, please call the office 48 hours in advance so we may offer that time to another patient. If you are going to be late, let us know as soon as possible and we will make every effort to accommodate you.

Referrals

Please tell us if another physician has referred you. We will be prompt in sending your doctor our findings. With unusual or complicated problems, we may give you better care by requesting the opinion of another physician. At such times, we will suggest a consultation with another specialist. The consultant will charge his or her usual fee.

Telephone Calls

Answering questions about your health concerns is an important part of our job. We believe a telephone call can never replace an office visit. However, appointments and reporting of some of your laboratory results can be handled over the phone by one of our staff. Please feel free to call us; phone messages will be attended to in a timely manner.

Our telephone number is: 985-221-4400, and our telephone hours are: 8am - 5pm, Monday – Thursday and 8am-12pm Friday.

After hours all telephone calls are routed to our answering service. A live person will answer the phone and connect you to the doctor on call.

Prescriptions

In general, medicines are not prescribed over the phone without prior office evaluation of the medical condition. Please call your pharmacy for refills. They will contact our office and when appropriate, we will authorize the refill and your pharmacist will have it ready for pickup usually within 48 hours. If a refill is not authorized, our staff will contact you.

Laboratory Services

We offer a laboratory draw station in our office for our patients. We do not own nor operate the laboratory located outside of our office. All laboratory billing is done by their office and any questions you may have regarding your lab bills should be directed to them. We carefully monitor lab fees and quality in order to assure that our patients are being billed fairly and that the quality meets our expectations.

Fees and Insurance

Charges for office calls and surgery are determined by the complexity of the problems. If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to discuss our fees. We will bill most insurance directly.

The service provided by the physician is a contractual agreement between you and the provider. Insurance plans cover varying percentages of your medical and surgical costs and you may be responsible for any amount not covered by your plan.

The following is a short list of the insurance programs with whom we are currently contracted. We also accept many other companies of insurance coverage:

•Aetna
•American Life Care
•Blue Cross Blue Shield
•Cigna
•Gilsbar
•Humana
•Medicaid
•Medicare
•PPO Plus
•Ticare South Region
•United HealthCare
•Uniform Medical

Abnormal (and Normal) Pap Evaluation and Treatment

Pap smearsare an important part of a woman’s annual screening. With new recommendations comes confusion. We can help guide you and educate you on proper timing of these exams, as each patient’s needs are different. We perform pap smears using liquid-based cytology (Thin Prep Paps) according to the very latest guidelines. The Thin Prep Pap smear allows us to check for any abnormal cells AND see if the Human Papilloma virus is present. Patients with abnormal pap tests may require colposcopy, which is a microscope used to closely visualize and analyze the cervix. further procedures may be warranted such as LEEP(loop electrode excision procedure).

Adolescent Gynecology

We provide comfortable and educational visits for teenagers starting at 12 - 15 years of age, or when they begin menstruating. We want to see an adolescent before she becomes sexually active.

we are also now recommending vaccination against the Human PapillomaVirus (HPV) which is for patients ages 9-26. This is the virus that can cause cervical cancer. The first visit often does not include a pelvic examination. We hope to establish a good relationship with your teen to provide her with another source of accurate information during her challenging years.

Contraceptive (Birth Control) Counseling

Contraception choices can be confusing and we want to help make your choice the form that best fits your situation and lifestyle. We offer oral contraceptives, patch contraceptives, vaginal ring contraception, intrauterine devices, instruction in natural family planning, barrier techniques and proper use of condoms. For those wishing permanent sterilization we offer tubal ligations done laparoscopically.

Essure® (Permanent Birth Control)

The Essure® procedure is a sterilization procedure that is performed by an Essure® trained physician. Unlike a tubal ligation and vasectomy, there is no cutting or visible scarring and general anesthesia is not required.

Fertility Counseling

For women who wish to be pregnant but have not become pregnant after 12 months of unprotected intercourse -- or even after 6 months for women over the age of 35 -- fertility counseling is warranted. Referral to a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) may also be a necessary part of your workup.

Laparoscopic Surgery

Advanced laparoscopic surgery is a less invasive approach to major surgery with a faster recovery time. The doctors of advanced women’s health perform many laparoscopic procedures including total laparoscopic hysterectomy

Menopause Care

The average age for menopause is 51. However, many women experience menopausal symptoms much earlier. These symptoms include—but are not limited to--hot-flashes, night sweats, irritability, irregular cycles with irregular bleeding, depression, insomnia and dry vagina. We also offer "peri-menopausal" carein helping patients cope with the many stressors facing women of this age group focusing on preventive care. One of the ways to help is hormone replacement therapy, and we are ready to offer you an individualized plan to help support your lifestyle. We also aid in coordinating the many preventive health screens that are needed during this time period from mammography and bone density to referral for colonoscopy.

With conversation, voiding diaries and physical exam we can determine the best treatment for you. Our goal is to improve your quality of life.

Surgical Services

Surgical procedures are performed at nearby Teche regional medical center. Many minor procedures are performed on an “outpatient” basis meaning you get to go home the same day to relax in your own bed.

We perform major surgeries with a variety of approaches. Laparoscopy utilizes tiny abdominal incisions and ports to allow a camera and instruments to pass into the abdominal cavity. This allows us to perform surgery with minimal scarring, less pain, and shorter recovery time. Most of the surgeries are performed in this minimally invasive manner

Vaginal surgery is performed vaginally. Many anti incontinence and prolapsesurgeries are performed in this manner leaving no visible scarring. There is also faster recovery.

Abdominal surgery still has its place. Cesarean sections arethe most common surgery performed in this manner. Depending on many factors there are many hysterectomies performed through an abdominal incision.

Ultrasound Services

Advanced Women's Health performs its own obstetrical and gynecological ultrasounds. Ultrasound imaging is one of the safest tools we have to diagnose problems or to reassure and give peace of mind.

We have a large wall mounted screen for your viewing pleasure so that you may follow along with your exam. The results of your exam are ready immediately and discussed with you before you leave the office.

We also offer 3D/4D ultrasound to our obstetrical patients in the early third trimester. This allows patients to get a glimpse of their child’s facial features. We are glad to offer this exciting new technology.
